Remodel Project Description:

This project was designed and constructed for our client that wanted her aging mother in the early stages of Alzheimer’s to move in with her. Mom also presented with a steady reduction in her physical abilities. The half submerged basement with a short set of stairs leading into it, was converted into a suite for mom. A half bath adjacent to the living space, was converted into a full bath in such a way as to allow full wheelchair accessibility if the situation should present itself.

Existing half bathroom & living space

The overall size of the basement measured approximately 12’ x 27’.
The existing half bathroom measured approximately 5’ x 4’ and did not have a heating element associated with it.
The remainder of the basement did not have adequate lighting but did offered adequate living space for mom.

Conversion of existing half bathroom and into a full wheelchair accessible bathroom.

The full bathroom now measures approximately 5’ x 11’ and houses a 5’ x 3’ wide shower stall with a collapsible water retaining strip that was installed to ensure that the waste water stayed inside the shower area.
An A.D.A. toilet with assist handles and wall mounted sink was installed to ensure full accessibility.
A hardwired electric heater was also installed to heat the bathroom.
